Sunday 6th October 2019
An Introduction to Ashtanga
2pm – 4pm
Yoga Tree Studios
Ashtanga is the synchronised movement of classical yoga postures along the thread of the breath. The movement (or vinyasa) is counted, which gives the mind a focus. The whole practise becomes a moving meditation, a complete synchronicity and union of mind, body and breath.
In this Introduction to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga we will take a deeper look at the fundamental qualities that are the foundation of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. Breath, Bandha and drishti will be demystified, so you can make a deeper connection to the tradition of this beautiful practice.
Ness will guide you through the Primary Series which will encourage you to move beyond your perceived limitations and bring balance to both strength and flexibility. Ashtanga Vinyasa is a practice that ultimately shifts our attention inwards and gives us a greater understanding of ourselves and our internal landscape.
We will move through as much of the Primary Series as the group allows. Modifications will be offered.
Saturday 19th October
Play on Hands
2pm – 4pm
Pose Fitness Studio, Weedon
Much of yoga requires us to get comfortable with our hands as foundation.
Maybe it still feels strange to have weight in the hands, perhaps the wrists feel weak? This playshop will explore the hands as foundation, how we can strengthen them, how we can get comfortable with them on the floor, and perhaps move towards having them as foundation for arm balance poses and inversion poses which often require the hands to be our ‘feet’.
Saturday 2nd November
Arm Balance Workshop
2pm – 4pm
The Core Zone, Banbury
This arm balancing workshop will help you to understand how to apply techniques in order to get lift-off and defy gravity with confidence. This will encourge you to be open to all possibilities. You will learn how to connect to your core, explore the foundations and mechanics of each pose to be able to move beyond your limitations with balance and strength. Together we will break down the intricacies of empowering arm balances like crow, side crow and firefly. These postures will challenge you to be humble, embrace your fears, boost your confidence, and connect you to your playful spirit. You will be met exactly where you are and given the tools you need to progress at your level.
Sunday 3rd November 2019
Full Primary with Jump focus
2pm – 4pm
Yoga Tree Studios, Northampton
Do you land with a heavy thud when jumping forward in a vinyasa or do you fear crushing your toes when you jump back?
How do you even begin to jump through effortlessly to seated?
Within a led Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary series class we look at the work required to connect to these elusive maneuvers.
We will look at how to connect to the fundamental aspects of Ashtanga, to breath, bandha and drishti , to achieve the floating qualities held within the vinyasa.
You will leave feeling clear about where your personal work is in achieving the strength, and softness required to float and fly which will also support your future arm balances and will assist inversion practise too.
